The Southside Band will have a required 7:15AM full band rehearsal each Thursday through marching season. In addition to this early rehearsal, each student will also have one required section class per week beginning September 15th to work on a course of study designed to help them progress as musicians on their instrument and also to prepare their All-Region/All-State tryout music. The students will be graded each week on assigned exercises and scales. A major emphasis is put on this course of study and a large portion of their first semester band grade is determined by these weekly grades. The weekly section class schedule is:
Monday 7:15AM Trumpets and Saxophones
Tuesday 7:15AM Bb Clarinets and French Horns
Wednesday 7:15AM Flutes, Trombones, Euphoniums, and Tubas
Friday 7:15AM All Percussion, Oboes, Bassoons, and Low Clarinets
In order to help get our show on the ground before we start section classes, we will also have required 7:15AM full band rehearsals on these dates:
Tuesday, August 26
Tuesday, September 9
Except for our majorettes and color guard on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have no scheduled rehearsals after school. We understand the demands placed on our students with homework, church, work, family, etc. and will not call full band rehearsals after school.
Summer band practices are on August 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15. These are from 8:00 am to 12:00pm. On August 11 we not practice at the normal time but will practice from 5:00-9:00 pm. In addition to these rehearsals, the percussion will practice from 1:30-3:00 each day. The color guard will have their camp from 1:30-4:30 on August 5-8. These rehearsals are crucial. We had been able to practice for 11-12 days in the past. This summer we only have 10 rehearsals to learn 4 show tunes, 14 stands tunes, cadences, and pass-off marching fundamentals. It is critical that you be at every rehearsal.
